During laboratory session, Emaad did several researches to look for a flexible metal rod for Re-Stringer, which pushes the clamping mechanism all the way through the hood of the sweatshirt. That metal rod must satisfy these conditions below.
- Suitable - the diameter must equal or below 2 mm
- Durable - the rod cannot break after several restrings
- Stiffness - how the rod can push through the clothing
- Flexibility - the metal rod can bend to pass through smoothly
Initially, gooseneck tubes were considered due to its flexibility and durable. However, its minimum diameter, which is about 9mm, was a big impact in order to avoid. Purchasing gooseneck tubes via several wholesale retailers, which is the cheapest and easiest method to get those tubes, was also inapplicable that surpassed Group 8's budget to construct the device.
Fortunately, after surfing Amazon, Emaad could find a solution for the rod, which is a BBQ skewer from Shwizadle.
Shwizadle BBQ skewer has 2 mm-diameter, which can go through the clamping mechanism. Moreover, those skewers satisfy the stiffness-flexibility, and durable requirements as they are advertised as bendable and durable, which can hold up several BBQ stuffs as below. After discussion, Group 8 decided to apply the skewers as the flexible metal rod for Re-Stringer
